To Prevent Falls in Construction
Fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be the leading cause of death for construction employees, accounting for 366 of the 971 construction fatalities recorded in 2017 (BLS data). Of course, these deaths are all preventable. Starting May 6th and running through May 10th, OSHA hosts a National Safety Stand-Down to raise awareness across the country in an effort to stop fall fatalities and injuries.

What is a Safety Stand-Down?
A Safety Stand-Down is a voluntary event for employers to talk directly to their employees about safety. Any workplace and anybody can hold a stand-down. Take a break to focus on ‘Fall Hazards’ and reinforce the importance of ‘Fall Prevention’.
How to Participate
It’s quite easy to participate in the National Safety Stand-Down. Take a break from your normal work day routine to have a toolbox talk or another safety activity such as conducting safety equipment inspections, developing rescue plans, or discussing specific job hazards.
